From Mr. Simpson?

South Leith Parochial Office,

Junction Road,

Dear Sir,

Leith, 19th January, 1855.

I feel very great pleasure to have it in my power to bear testimony to the admirable manner in which you discharged your duties as Surgeon of the Cholera Hospital of the Parochial Board of South Leith, during your appointment which terminated on the 6th Ultimo.

The confidence and respect which I know you gained among those you were called upon to attend in the discharge of your official duty are sufficient to testify to your merit and skill, and serve to corroborate the official Reports in my possession of your very successful treatment of the patients that were placed under your charge.

This is the second time you have been called upon by the Parochial Board of South Leith to fill the Office of Cholera Surgeon of their Hospital, and I need not say that the second appointment you received from the Board arose entirely from their just appreciation of your valuable services during the first.
